Marcel and Liezel came to visit on the farm over the weekend, on Saturday morning we strolled up the hill to get a view. - click on an image to view them bigger.
Kat did the make-up yesterday on the shoot for violinist Caitlin Papier, while Caitlin got ready we looked around the location, a Victorian military base going back to 1893. Kat is also the girl in the Polaroid with the Afro Chick T-shirt in this previous post. Click on images to see them larger.
The good, the bad and the ugly from around here were I live. Some drive-by shootings, maybe the start of an empty dam documentary, but mostly just fooling around with my new Canon G10.
...is what I call my collaboration with Ella and Kat. They came from Cape Town on wednesday with a car full of wardrobe and props, we had a fantastic time shooting the two of them in the landscape around the farm. I'll post the results later, in the meantime; some polaroids.
... before the knife & Tik people gave me something more important to do, was these four landscapes. I wanted to call it "Summer in the Valley" or something in the same vein. It's very difficult to believe that these mountains are snow capped in winter, with the temperatures we get in summer. The forecast for this week range from 32 to 38 degrees (centigrade), except thursday, which will be a bit cooler at 28 degrees - I think I'll make Thursday my garden work day. Another stabbing right next door to me, a bit more serious this time. The victim is the same man who was the suspect in the incident I blogged about here two weeks ago. Click on an image to view them slightly bigger.
Last night I burned five old photography books that became virtually unusable when my trailer flooded last winter, most of the pages were stuck together, and on the farm it's just so much easier to dispose of the ashes than the actual books. Sadly one of them was the David Bailey book that my housemate Jason stole from the campus library about eight years ago. By the time I stole it from him the pages were already separated from the cover and the book itself in many pieces. You can help me feel better by buying me another copy here. The guy who help me out on the farm over weekends live about 150m away from me, on saturday afternoon his wife came over and asked me to call the police and ambulance, her son in law got stabbed with a knife. I walked over and had a chat with the man who told me that he had an argument over a bicycle with another farm worker. Drug and alcohol related crime and violence is unfortunately rife in this part of South Africa.
I was reminded today by someone at my agency of these photographs I took of Mia only 2 months ago, but it feels much longer. So many things happened since then. The black puppy that my land lady looked after found a good home and I don't live in that cottage in Sea Point next to the swimming pool anymore...
